The Tweed, the Moorfoot Hills, and the Lammermuir Hills

The Tweed, the Moorfoot Hills, and the Lammermuir Hills

Tourist Attractions:
Start & Finish: Kelso
Approximate Distance: 170Miles
Kelso Abbey, Floors Castle, The source of the Tweed, Jim Clark Room
Route Overview:
An excellent few hours driving, that starts by chasing the Tweed out of Kelso along the sweeping A699 to Selkirk. The thirty-two miles of uninterrupted driving all the way to Moffat that follow are just as good, if not better. This is mainly because the A708 is always quiet with only a handful of cars seeming to use it. Then from Moffat it is the A701, the Devils Beef Tub, the best road in the Borders. Wide enough to enjoy in any car, the “Tub” should be the highlight of the day as it climbs out of Moffat and runs north along the tweed. Following this incredible thirty miles, there is time to pause for breath on the always-busy A72, before charging again onto another deserted classic, the A709 across the Moorfoot Hills. After this, the route crosses the A7, then, the A68, before heading over to Gifford for the last long empty stretch of the day, the B6355 over the Lammermuir Hills. They provide some awesome scenery and a stunning thirty miles drive over their humps and bumps, before heading into Duns and a chance to visit the Jim Clark room. The route finally returns to Kelso via some wide and flowing roads.
