Alston - Middleton - Brough - Sedburgh

Following a work trip to Blyth I took the fun route home in the Leon.

Took the A69 out to Haydon Bridge then the 686 down to Alston then down to Middleton on Teesdale on the B6277 (probably the best road in England)

then over to Brough

and then down to Sedburgh
before M6 and home. Had a new 911 try to keep up in the pouring rain heading out of Alston but the Leon showed it a clean pair of heals. Driver caught me up in Middleton in traffic and the smile on his face obviously showed that he had enjoyed the run as much as I did.

Leon was safe as houses in the very heavy weather, in fact it is probably more fun in wet conditions.

That 28 second period 50 year swell.

In years to come, I will be able to say I surfed the greatest swell ever not to hit the east coast. Our old friend MSW was calling a foot or so on a 28second period and, despite it being impossible without the removal of Norway, we all wanted to believe something special was about to happen.

Even after MSW acknowledged an error in the data model, we still grew our hair out and developed the Bohdi thousand yard stare.

Anyway I was on the east coast for work so took a car full of boards - you know, just in case - and the result was very very small but not unpleasent longboarding in the shelter of Caves in Sandsend.

Myreton Motor Museum

Whilst visiting folks in Aberlady finally had a walk round the car museum just a mile or so from their house. Great little museum and a treasure trove of signs, pedal cars and other motor related colectables.

Myreton Motor Museum is well signposted from the A198 and B1377 roads and is close to the seaside villages of Aberlady and Gullane, in East Lothian, Scotland.

MORRIS OXFORD Bullnose 1925
This Morris Oxford was found in an Edinburgh scrapyard in 1952 and driven home. Whilst it was being restored a letter was found behind the door trim, it had been written to the new owners aunt this led to the discovery that the car had been purchased new by Willie Dales grandfather. Since 1952 it has done a considerable mileage, and in the 60s at the hands of Andrew Cruickshank (Dr Cameron) who used it in the television series Dr Finlays Casebook

Can I go home now Daddy?

 CHRYSLER Evening News Van 1926
This was one of a fleet of seven similar vans used by the Edinburgh Evening News, the others were Austins and has long since been scrapped. Vans like this were a regular sight in and around Edinburgh until retirement in !952 when it was sold to the Sword collection. When that collection was sold it returned to the News being used for publicity, but lack of space forced a second retirement and we purchased it. It is a very smooth and reliable runner with plenty of power, but not very comfortable , most of its space being reserved for the newspapers.

Three for £20

Picked these three up for £20 in north Berwick, mainly cos the Pritchard is a 1st Edition.

The first is hard back 993 Carrera brochure in excellent condition complete with the tech data sheet. Was only £2 and these are already going for decent money on ebay as collectors want all the docs to go with their cars. I'll hold onto this one.

A 1st Edition which was £16 but worth it as I have enjoyed some other of Pritchards books. Mark/Model specific books always worth having anyway.
Bad choice this one as it is pretty crap and not worth much but I did the three books on a deal so I will call it as free. Just funny anacdotal type stories from Jackie.
